Abstract

Assistance to burn patients has always been a challenge for health professionals, a type of injury that causes marks beyond the skin, can cause social stigmas and major economic impacts. Faced with the problem, the search for alternatives to skin grafting to high-cost dressings, Brazilian researchers started researching the use of tilapia with worldwide repercussions. The aim of this study is to disseminate the theme for expansion and better knowledge of the new biological dressing presented. An integrative bibliographic review was carried out based on reliable scientific bases. Studies have been found reinforcing the effectiveness of using tilapia skin, as well its benefits, histological characteristics and tests in humans. We believe that tilapia skin is a Brazilian innovation and should be adopted as another legacy for the assistance to burned and other areas of plastic surgery
