Wounds and skin lesions since long have been a serious public health problem not only in Brazil, but in the world, causing a significant increase in the incidence of morbidity and mortality as a result. Nurse is the professional directly related to the care and treatment of skin lesions and wounds. Because these injuries are costly, they are constantly monitored by health service managers and, for this reason, the importance of updating the professionals who handle them is so important. The objective of the study is to describe the practical experience of nursing about skin lesions and wound treatment. The methodology used was descriptive and observational, consisting of an experience report in the period of the last 5 years (February 2015 to February 2020) in large public and private hospitals, located in the city of São Paulo. The skin lesions and wounds observed were of a generalist characteristic, that is, they came from several factors such as local pressure (PU), surgical, iatrogenic and accidental, and the technical competence of the professionals, instruments, materials and technologies used. As a result, it was observed that some professionals perform the procedures within the required techniques, while others, having adequate resources, do not perform this procedure in the same way, directing the thinking that there is a need to update them. The conclusion is that the perfect evolution is directly related to the techniques used and the involvement with constant updates.
